The museum shows a nice collection of flour mosaics from Greek and Roman times, from the ancient settlement of Marcianopolis and contains some of the best examples of Roman mosaic art found in Bulgaria.
 

For the purpose to preserve the archaeological discoveries the museum was built on the foundations of an ancient building with the mosaics dated to the end of III - IV c. Five of the rooms and the portico are covered in multi-coloured floor mosaics. Each image contains thousands of tiny cubic stones and took months to complete. Most of the motives found on the mosaics are from Greek mythology- the Medusa image, Satyr and Antyope, the taking of Ganimedus from Zeus. Other mosaics form beutiful geometrical motives and shapes. There are presented also various materials associated with the building architecture and lifestyle of its ancient inhabitants.
